A romantic lost on a beach with storm and merrow song brewing

So today was not the kind of beautiful beach that most people imagine but it was a wonderland to me! It was cloudy and raining most of the morning and a storm was brewing and coming in over the island we are on. i decided to dress for the beach anyway, I had a little white dress over my suit that is like a romantic prairie kinda dress with lots of flowery lace and eyelets and such. The wind was a blowing. naturally I did not want to really go in the ocean. So we went shell collecting and found all these shells that they (the other girls with me) called mermaid nails, they looked like long nails. So at that point....MY IMAGINATION WENT WILD (hence the title). Since there was a storm coming i thought of Merrow, which is the celtic version of a mermaid and my for sure favorite kind

"The merrow  were capable of attachment to human beings and there are reports of them inter-marrying and living among humans for many years.  However usually they eventually return to their former homes beneath the sea.

Merrow-maidens are reputed to lure young men to follow them beneath the waves where afterwards they live in an enchanted state.  Merrows wear a special hat called a cohuleen druith which enables them to dive beneath the waves, if they lose this cap it is said they have no power to return beneath the water.  Sometimes they are said to leave their outer skins behind, to assume others more magical and beautiful.  The merrow has soft white webs between her fingers, she is often seen with a comb parting her long green hair on either side.  Merrow music is often heard coming from beneath the waves."

"Most of the stories are about female beings; however, there are some about mer-men who capture the souls of drowned sailors and keep them in soul cages under the sea.^[2] Female Merrows were considered very beautiful, but the mermen were basically ugly, another reason why Merrow women sought out human men. ^[1] In most cases, the female Merrow had a cap or cape, normally red, and if a human could capture and hide either so the Merrow never found it, then she would remain on land without a fuss. But if the Merrow should ever find her cap or cape, she would feel compelled to return forever to the ocean, leaving entire families behind."

These are just a bit of information that I have been able to gather from the internet in the past five minutes.=] There are tales of them and incredible descriptions of such strange other worldly creatures. Just google Merrow Folk lore and you can find and incredible amount of information. Now for pictures!

I couldnt find a picture of just the shell so this is the animal in the shell but you can kinda see the long thin shell. so there is my merrow inspired post, there was so much more in my head and still is maybe someday I will sketch it out. see you later! game night!

Life is a beach, especially when you are on one!!

So right now I am in north  carolina on THE BEACH. I have the absolute worst tan line everrrr. I was wearing bike length leggings (they ended right above the knee) and I was on the beach reading (almost done with Anna Karenina, more on that later) I was barely out there 45 min and I woke up this morning with a crisp tan line half way down my leg... DEEELIGHTFUL. oh well It will even out, hopefully. But right now on the beach im getting a definite sporty bright color block  beachy vibes. like these.

These are a few examples from the web, not sure where they are from but they get the point across. They are bold and gorgeous and i love it!! This whole week I am living in dresses and bikinis!! Hooray!

Now on to a topic that is completely different but needs to be talked about. JANE EYRE. If you have never read this book then shame on you, I watched the new version if the movie three times in 2 days...crazy you say? I say not enough If I had more time I would have watched it three more times. I decided my wedding dress will be inspired by her wedding dress. So now I will show pictures from the newer movie, It is only the second version I have seen but it was the best!!! MICHAEL FASTBENDER IS INCREDIBLE!!!

Rococo is the way to go

Yay for rhyming titles! Any way I have been neglecting this blog, not that anyone actually reads it at this point, and was trying to force some kind of inspiration. So I went to the place that always gives me inspiration. ROCOCO!

Rococo is one of the best movements in art in my opinion. The colors are all pastel and girly, even men wear them. mixing silver and gold was big too. Complete and utter decadence was the order of the time! I need to build up a collection of clothing and jewelry inspired by this. If you have not seen the Marie Antoinette movie you should see it just for the beautiful colors and aesthetic. 

PSYCHO...in more ways than one

So today I finished reading Go Ask Alice. Incredible book, in more ways than one. Incredibly insightful, incredibly depressing and incredibly good. If you have not read it you need too. It is a diary of a girl in the seventies, she goes through everything. Its all true, you are reading a real journal of a girl. READ IT!

these women are the perfect example of how to be feminine without being "girly". I super hate when girls think they have to dress like a man to not be girly. You CAN be FEMININE with out being GIRLY, that my dear friends is a very important concept!!!!!

Anyway I have been falling in love with this music all over again, and of course along with that comes the inspiration to dress like them. So I dug out my creeper boots with disney villain laces, black eyeshadow,and dark painted lips. Zombies, ghouls, and bad ass women, thats Psychobilly to me!

Tramps and Theives

   So i went to the thrift store saturday and found the most amazing incredible beautiful gown ever! It is a 1950's or 60's homemade evening gown, it is the color of belle's dress in beauty and the beast. A high neck tank dress with a full skirt and a cute little bow! Also... IT WAS 99 CENTS!! I do not currently have a picture but I will have one up as soon as possible!!
    Its so rainy here!! I am on campus all day, I come in at 8 am and leave by 930 pm... I have 12 hours of class in one day! The rain is not helping at all, and I am lacking a major amount of caffeine.

GYPSIES!!!!!!! 

    First picture unknown,  gypsy woman from the 10th kingdom, Dinner scene from stardust, Michelle Pheiffer (sp?) in stardust, And of course CHER. I love the gypsy look and feel, lots of layers, tons of jewelry. I just made it through the 6 or so hours of the 10th kingdom and have had gypsies, fantasy and wolves on my mind. That movie is so cheesy but incredible! I love the wolf, the idea of wolf men, and no I am not "team Jacob". I am team Sexy wolf! like sooooooo

Yeah thats the guy from 'call me when you are sober' by evanesces (sp?) He is seriously gorgeous, and I love the period look of the costume he has on!

This is the Wolf from the 10th kingdom, He acts cheesy in the movie but the wolf in him is sexy all the same!

So there is my rant on gypsies and farietales. I love the idea of retold story tales, or their continuation of them into the future! Scify and hallmark have the best movies of things like that. Alice, and Tin Man are from scify and are both incredible! Voyage of the Unicorn, Dinotopia and the 10th Kingdom are great halmark movies! Watch them!!

Ok so im sitting here in a room full of windows, drinking iced coffee and watching americas next top model.  The aftermath of the Brittany breakdown is intense. I was incredibly upset that Alexandria won the warriors in pink challenge. The Fight against breast cancer is something that is near and dear to me and that fakey fake won...I was so mad I e-mail the tyra show to complain. I have disliked girls like crazy, but never so much to actually do something (or try to do something) about it.

Ok enough about them. New obsession? NAILS. Illamasqua has the craziest coolest fake nails. how can you resist these beauties?!?! They are called nail quills, which makes them even hotter!

these are the toxic nature, toxic claws...again HOT! Too bad they are way way expensive and I am way too broke.

These nails made me die!!! they have a tutorial on the website on how to make your own out of fake nails, needless to say I did this asap. with dark maroon nails and gold hearts on my ring fingers. I do not have a picture unfortunately. But I promise they were magnificent! -RJ
